If there were to be one single super power that humans could attain, it would undoubtedly be the power of listening. It’s one of nature’s biggest underestimated, and often forgotten, treasures. It’s also one of nature’s unfathomable paradoxes.
How is it that listening can deliver a message home more effectively than actually speaking and articulating that message? How is it that by simply listening to a problem attentively we’ll find the solution lying within? How is it that listeners are better communicators than those who often communicate more than they listen?
If we’re using our mouths to speak, then we’re using our hearts to listen. The former requires words, but the latter requires empathy.
Oh and one more thing, isn’t it fascinating how we can’t spell the word ‘listen’ without using the same letters to spell the word ‘silent’?
